I have $1000 to spend on landscaping, what should i plant first?

Draw a landscape plan on paper. Plant the bigger things first - trees and shrubs, as they will be the most expensive. Put mulch around them. You can work on flower beds later, once you determine how much shade will be cast by your trees and shrubs. Familiarize yourself with which flowers need full sun, and which need shade.
